ABOUT US

I teach Wing Chun as a working Martial Art for self defence, my personal life experiences have given me an understanding that violence is unpredictable and chaotic, but above all else it is singularly physical and as such we need to train from a vantage point of making things work physically .

The core of Wing Chun training is developing a high level of self control over our own bodies, being able to do what we need to do in the right place at the right time, in as mentally and emotionally relaxed manner as possible, to that end we encourage understanding the Wing Chun Forms as do every other Wing Chun School.

We believe of even greater importance is to develop personal honesty of what it is we are involved in, of not pretending that because we do Wing Chun we will not fall victim to a person with bad intentions, not falling for the Kung Fu movie trap that the training will make us a Bad Ass, or some kind of Über Ninja.

We keep in sight the fact that what we are engaged in is asocial behaviour, pretending that we are not undertaking the training to learn how to use effective violence but for some other more noble reason is dishonest and only leads to self denial that ultimately ends in disaster when we need our training the most.

Gavin de Becker puts it like this in his book Fear Less.

“..denial can be seductive, but it has an insidious side effect. For all the peace of mind deniers think they get by saying it isn’t so, the fall they take when faced with new violence is all the more unsettling. Denial is a save-now-pay-later scheme, a contract written entirely in small print, for in the long run, the denying person knows the truth on some level.”

Lt. Col.Dave Grossman writes ..

“Denial kills you twice. It kills you once, at your moment of truth when you are not physically prepared: You didn’t bring your gun; you didn’t train. Your only defence was wishful thinking. Hope is not a strategy. Denial kills you a second time because even if you do physically survive, you are psychologically shattered by fear, helplessness, horror and shame at your moment of truth”.

Denial is really just not being honest, and above all else Martial Artist must be honest, especially with ourselves and our expectations.

We must be comfortable with the fact that if we need to use our training in the real world we will be hurting people, and then perfect the skills to do that.

ABOUT THE “D” MAN;   Derek has been training in the Martial Arts since 1960, he started with Boxing as a Junior and then Judo as a teenager and young Man and specialising in Wing Chun since 1992 training with the late Jim Fung Chuen Keung  until his passing in 2007 and then with his own Group.  Sifu Jim Fung was a long time student of the Great Grand Master Chu Shong Tin  to a certain degree we teach the C.S.T. Body method {as taught pre 1999 – 2000}  we just take it to its logical conclusion.

Fist Logic.

ABOUT THE GROUP; We are quite a small and friendly group that fluctuates between 8 and 16 Students, Wing Chun needs to be taught “Hands On” so running a large School is counter productive.

Here are a few satisfied Students that have been with me from before the beginning when I taught for my Sifu’s School.
